OUR TEAS
The Estate grows and produces black and green tea, processing of the green leaves to processed tea is conducted on site. Harvesting of green leaves is a strict and closely monitored process whereby two leaves and a bud are plucked. This practice is strictly adhered to maintain the superior quality of the product and Ntingwe tea has been rated among the 5th best quality teas in the world by Taylors of Harrogate.
BLACK TEA
Black tea is made by harvesting of good quality leaf, weighed, fluffed, and withered and processed after a minimum of eleven hours of withering and on the following day is, crushed to produce primary and secondary grades. The Ntingwe’s two tea producing plants, one for black tea and the other for green tea, use modern technology available to produce superior quality teas. Black tea is Cut, Tear and Curl (CTC) type and green tea, low caffeine process using technology from Japan.
GREEN TEA
Green tea plant at Ntingwe is the only plant of its kind that produces high quality low caffeine green tea (LCGT) following low caffeine process using technology from Japan. Green tea is processed from freshly harvested two leaves and a bud, which is processed right away as soon as green leaves reach the factory. Green tea is sold in 25g tea bags containers and packed in 40’s and 100’s. Both Black and Green Tea have been proven to contain high levels of antioxidants. Green tea has a unique selling proposition as there are very few green teas produced in South Africa.
