The Ntingwe Tea Estate is an integral part of the socio-Economic development fabric of the deep impoverished rural community it is located within. As such the estate plays a lead role in the upliftment of the community in conjunction with other lead role players.
Ntingwe has directly and indirectly via the use of NGO consultants been involved in all the following projects and initiatives:
WATER SUPLY PROJECT
The facilitation and capacity building were undertaken with local people to empower them to participate in the implementation of the R16m Vutshini Community Water Supply Scheme to supply both potable and irrigation water.
TRANSPORTATION
Ntingwe Tea Estate is engaging with the Department of Transport to upgrade road infrastructure in the Ntingwe village to drive economic activity.
EDUCATION
Ntingwe Tea Estate assisted the Peace Foundation in completing the development of a creche.
COMMUNITY GARDENS
Assisted local people from 9 community gardens, develop skills and access support from the Department of Agriculture.
COMMUNITY HALL
Provided assistance to obtain R300 000 funding from local government for the erection of a community hall.
TEA OUTGROWERS
The facilitation of the establishment of tea out growers, with Ithala having, in the past secured R480 000 grant funds from the KwaZulu-Natal Agricultural Development Trust to support the initial development and fund the establishment costs. Funding is still required to cover the costs of managing the implementation of the out-grower project.
